Down the Queenstown memory lanes

Today we were gathering at a Queenstown Kaki event talking about a SAGE project. Where we gather community together to assess, review, suggest and implement town improvement for community benefit. This project also allows community to get involved and take ownership in the community they are living in. We were blessed to be able to involve in my lovely Queenstown Estate.

Queenstown estate had some sentimental value as I was coined as the "Meiling Boy" by my peer. For I loitered around the neigherhood while I was in my teenager time while all my other peer loitered around Orchard road. I just to just hang around stepping the stone flooring for theraphy when I had nothing to do.

I never really remember how the Queenstown cinema inside looks like. When I was a teenager I had the impression that the cinema serve really old movie or R-rated movie which I cannot watch at that time. So I go there for entertainment like bowling, playing billard and pool or hang out around the arcade and Lan shop that school boys play King of Fighters or Counter Strikes.

This NTUC is where I always go get my cold drink when I wanna take a break from the Lan shop gaming of Counter Strike :)

Sharing some hidden location. Actually there is a "mini arcade / KTV / pool table" entertainment outlet inside of Queenstown swimming complex. You can walk in after operating hour of the swimming pool, get pass the running track and climb the stadium staircase and enter via a back door entrance. It was a pretty quiet place as we hang around quite often at the place we can only see "regular customer" coming in and kind of not new known to the public. I guess Queenstownian might not even know the place.

There are more to share like the Margret drive hawker, Old Queenstown Community centre, Queenstown remand prison etc. But I am kinda playful boy so I remember only those entertainment center.

I felt the world moves faster and faster.

As construction method improves and project schedule shortened. Demolision method was used to tear down building faster.

To "redevelop" is so much easiler as government phased out SERS (Resident GAIN money) and replace by VERS (Resident PAY money). Everything change so much within a decade. Everything just 面目全非.

Now the Queenstown with those BTO project coming in, more young families will move into the estate and everything will be very modern.

Queenstown used to be the chilled and lay back area where all the people looks like retirees. Queenstownian don't really work that long and close shop pretty early. Moving forward as more fresh blood (young families) enter the neighbhoor, the hustle culture of the busy morning MRT will make Queenstown not the same anymore.
